Flavor Burst Chronicles

A Lasting Taste of Summer….

A kitchen counter with sliced mushrooms, avocado, cabbage, asparagus, and jars and bottles of pantry staples

I’ll take you back to the summer of 1986 in Chicago. The air was warm, the days were long, and the highlight of my afternoons was riding my 10-speed bike through the neighborhood and sitting on the front porch with cousins while snacking on a crisp, homemade sour pickle. I can still remember that first bite…tart, tangy, with just the right amount of crunch. The flavor was dilly with a hint of onion and spice but a juice filled pickle was perfect and quick for a cool down. I didn’t know it then, but those humble cucumbers that came from our small garden next to the garage would become a cherished food memory. Even now, the taste of a good pickle transports me back to those carefree days of summer. It’s amazing how a single vinegary bite can carry so much joy.

At Saja Living Garden, it’s this sense of connection through food that inspires our spice blends. Just like the sour pickles of my youth, our blends are crafted to bring out the simple, beautiful flavors in each dish and create lasting memories. Our Fire and Ice blend is a unique seasoning that combines the bold heat of chili powder with the surprising coolness of peppermint. It’s an unexpected flavor pairing that wakes you with a balance of warmth and freshness in every bite.. almost like being dapped up with a hug from your best friend when you meet them on the corner. This versatile blend adds a spicy kick to meats, vegetables, and even dips, while the hint of mint leaves a refreshing aftertaste that sets it apart from traditional chili seasonings.

I love trying new spices and seasonings on vegetables and cucumbers are great for highlighting flavors without overpowering them. Want to recreate that summer taste and explore a new spice blend? Here’s a simple recipe to make a quick pickled cucumbers snack, using our Fire and Ice blend for a cool, spicy kick!
